NEW ART SERIES TO EXPAND GALLERY ROLE
“The Big Picture” Set To Bring Artists In All Media And Collectors Together
This ongoing feature at the Glowing Sands Gallery was created by owners Dene and Doni Stephens to provide artists and collectors a venue not only for exhibition, but for fellowship, collaboration, and inspiration.
Looking to utilize their space and broaden beyond the previous niche of offering strictly glass art, the Stephenses welcome this change. Dene said, “ . . . from the beginning, we envisioned representing other artists working in different media, but we first wanted to establish who we were, and that was primarily a glass gallery. We have formed good relationships with so many local and regional artists, it makes sense for us to use our venue and expand the scope of what we do.” Stephens also says they have worked to achieve a necessary balance between being an exhibition gallery and retail space, “ . . . one thing we’ve been conscious of is the need to have artwork in many forms and price ranges for the various needs of our clientele; sometimes people need to decorate a home, and sometimes they just need a gift.”
The first installment in “The Big Picture” Art Series will highlight three local artists who work in different media. It will feature the painted works of Billy Hedel, the digital illustrations of Christy Jochum, and acrylic/mixed media works of Carole Douglas.
Opening reception for the event is free and open to the public, to be held Saturday October 24th from 5-8 PM at Glowing Sands Gallery, located at 1007 Parrett Street, behind the Alhambra Theater. The exhibition will run from October 24th until November 21st. Regular gallery hours are Friday-Sunday 12-6, and open by appointment all other times.
